Summary: Paul wrote to the Christians in Philippi to say that he was willing to stay on earth working for the Kingdom in order to advance the gospel and help Christian such as them. Paul identified certain motives that he detected in those who reached out to him. The positive ones had goodwill and came from love, realizing that Paul was in prison for defense of the gospel. But others had envy and rivalry, self-ambition and a hope to add trouble to Paul. He rejoices in those who are true partners to him in prayer and providing for him. Ask yourself, “through my own difficulties, am I able to encourage others and provide them a model of confident faith?”
