SUMMARY: God has chosen Christians as His elect to be exiled (pilgrims, strangers) in this world. This seems to be a contradictory term. First century Christians were scattered all over Asia Minor as exiles because of the persecution in Jerusalem and throughout Judea. This exile had a profound effect on that early church group, and also on us today. The earliest Christians had a sensitivity to human vulnerabilities which helped to protect against Satan's attacks. All Christians are chosen for the purposes of obedience and grace.
