Program Description

The Preschool Enrichment Program opened in 1995 and celebrates 25 years in December 2020. Even though we are open during traditional "mother's day out" hours, we consider ourselves a preschool. Our goal is to have the children as prepared to enter Kindergarten as those who attend a full-time preschool. There are two programs: regular Preschool Enrichment Program for children who have not started school, and the Summer Safari Program for school-age children.

Click on the categories below for more information, or just scroll down the page.

The PEP program serves babies from the age of 6 weeks through pre-Kindergarten. Any child under age 18 months is considered to be an infant, and have different forms and routines. The Summer Safari Program operates during the summer months from June through July and serves school-age children who have just completed kindergarten and up. Check with the office for specific start and end dates annually.

(Note current and former enrollees have first priority for filling openings. Other spots will be filled in order of application.)

Program Description

Registration for PEP and Summer Safari begins every March and continues until all slots are filled. If no slots are available, your child may be put on a waiting list for any spots that may open up during the year.

Preschool Enrichment Program (PEP)

PEP at Highland View has been established to help meet specific needs in your family. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving educational environment for your child while providing you with time to address other responsibilities. While your child is in our care, we strive to offer a comfortable, enjoyable place to learn and grow while interacting with peers and teachers. We take this responsibility very seriously. Each activity will be age appropriate and serve to meet the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs of each child. We hope that our program will help build a spiritual foundation as we work with you in your child's life.

We have classes for:

  • Infants and 1-year-olds (0-24 mon.)
  • Toddlers (2-year-olds)
  • Pre-School (3-year-olds)
  • Pre-Kindergarten (4- and 5-year olds not yet in kindergarten)

Summer Safari

Summer Safari is for children who have just completed kindergarten and up. We meet the same days and times as preschool: Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 2:00. The Summer Safari group meets at the preschool facility and goes off-campus. Students are transported by licensed drivers and ride either in the facility van or in the teachers' personal vehicles. They return to the church building by the time preschool is dismissing.

Examples of activities that the children have enjoyed in past years of Summer Safari include: bowling, swimming, gymnastics, putt-putt golf, going to the movies, and visiting local parks and playgrounds.

Costs - Summer Safari cost is $320 for the first child and then $250 for each additional sibling. That averages to $20/day or less for supervision and activities--a great buy! Spaces are limited with first spots going to those currently involved in PEP, then to newcomers.

PEP classes and activities are housed in the facilities of the Highland View church of Christ on 138 Providence Road in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The buildings and grounds are inspected regularly to assure their compliance with state and local building, fire, and safety codes.

Facilities include classrooms, an indoor playroom, a full-size gymnasium, kitchen, parking lot, an outside playground for older children, and an infant playground. Bathrooms are conveniently located near the classrooms and have child-size potties. The building is handicap-accessible.

Classrooms are windowed and well-lighted. They are brightly decorated with seasonal and Bible-related decorations and teaching aids aimed at the preschool ages served by the PEP program. See our photo album for more scenes of the facilities and program activities.
